Happy Easter! Oh, and Cabinets and Windows

I hope everyone is having a Happy Easter!  I had fun with the WQRC garden and apple tree this morning.

Yesterday I worked on the stove first. I need to recut my chipboard for the front of it but I got the stovetop painted and glued.

I used a metallic scrapbook paper for the bottom.

Since I had to use a regular black paint and then layer a metallic over it I worked on the burner and oven knobs while the paint was drying.  First the gesso.

Then a metallic silver over the gesso.

And then the jewelry findings to finish off the handles.

And while everything was drying I started on the kitchen cabinets.  I stained the veneer first and then glued everything to the chipboard. I had to weight it down to make sure it stayed flat with the moisture from the glue.

I made sure I used the stain on the edge of the chipboard so there wouldn't be any weird shadows.  Then I tested out the fit. And ran into a problem.

See the issue?

Yep. Cut the sink opening for the inside of the sink instead of the outer perimeter.  So... I looked for a two inch sink but no dice. Not one that would work with the cabinets and the countertop the way I want it. So...

You guessed it. If you can't buy it, make it.

Today I was a little less productive, I started working on the windows.

So now the glue is drying.  But so far so good.

Have a great weekend and a Happy Easter everyone!

  2. Hi Sheila! I hope you had a great Easter too?! I love seeing your mini Easter scene, so lovely and.....lots of eggs to search ;).
The stovetop is coming nicely together, as do the knobs, and yes, patience is asked for this sort of paint jobs. But OMG, what a pity the sink didn't fit in, I am sorry to read about the miscalculation! But making yourself another one of wood, you did a great job!
I see that your windows are more easy to work with (than mine ;)), but still lots of work to paint these all, they look great.
Stay safe, take care, dear Sheila.
    Hugs, Ilona

  4. I love your Easter scene, Sheila. I wouldn't mind visiting there and sharing some of those Easter eggs. Yum! Your work on the kitchen is coming along so well. What a disappointment with the first sink - but you recovered extremely well. I love the large window you built with the opening sections on top and also the colour of stain you have chosen for the cupboards. I look forward to seeing it all come together. - Marilyn D.

  6. Oh Sheila! You got so much accomplished over the last week! The stovetop and the knobs are looking fabulous, and the cabinets are wonderful! I love the bold grain which gives them a really modern and custom vibe! Your custom sink is coming out great, too, and I think it's going to be such a great feature in the kitchen. I love your working window and I know how much planning and work goes into them so you deserve a hearty round of applause! Great work - I'm excited to see more!!!

  7. Augh! Something always goes wrong doesn’t it?? I had one of those weekends too, so can sympathise. On the upside the drawer/door fronts look great as does your window, so an overall success. Hope you had a lovely Easter!

  9. Hi Sheila! I love the picnic set up in the WQRC garden! It is a lot of fun to see that spot again... and especially so well decorated! Spring is definitely there!
I think the veneer for your cabinets looks wonderful and I am sorry you had to re-make the sink.... now you will just have to make another kitchen to use the bigger one! LOL! But the Container House is Compact... so the smaller one might be best anyway.
The windows look promising too! I'm glad you were able to get so much done! Stay safe! and keep making minis! :)

  10. I really like the stain on the cupboards, Sheila. Ha, using the wrong measurement for the sink is something I would typically do. Your hand-made version looks perfect, though.
Window frames also show promise. Like all yours, this is a captivating build to watch.
