All Lit Up

Just a quick little post to show you the Craftsman Tiny House at night.  I went in and turned on all the lights and then turned off the lights in the 1:1 house.

I was taking pictures with my cell phone so they're not the greatest but you get the idea right?  I sat and looked at it from my living room and was so happy.

And Keli left a comment on my last post about my new build and door widths.  For some reason the comment didn't show up but I couldn't stop giggling when I got it in my email.  Here it is.

She was, of course, alluding to my issue getting the Architect's Abode into the closet for storage.  At least I think she was.  I mentioned that right?  Wow, lack of sleep really makes me a little goofy.

Anyway, in case I didn't, when attempting to move the Architect's Abode out of my main workspace, I realized that it wouldn't fit through the closet doorway.  I had to cut an inch off the front of the base to get it to fit.  This was after I'd taken the door off the hinges.

But I did manage to get it in the closet and now it lives there happily, free from the Building Inspector's investigations.

That is why I'm trying to keep the dimensions of the Wicked Queen's Retirement Cottage manageable.  It's not very wide so that's good.  I want the width of the base a bit larger than the cottage itself but not by a lot.  I've got some ideas for it.

Here's our last look at the Craftsman Tiny House for a while.

I'm more awake now that I've written something and had some caffeine. So I'm going to go play with my new kit!

Cleaning Out My Closet

No, not the Eminem song.  Though I do like that one.

And not actually my closet, the 'walk in' closet in my husband's study.  It started out as a place to keep things were didn't know where to put, and some keepsakes that I didn't need out.  And Christmas decorations...that sort of thing.

Because we don't go in the attic.  Not ever.  It's creepy up there.

But with the big footprint of the Craftsman Tiny House I've been running out of space for my houses.

Husband suggested we get the closet cleaned out and we could put the Architect's abode in there.  It would free up more space in my workroom (dining room) and clear the table so I can work on the next project.

It's not a huge closet but it was amazing what got packed into it.

Here it is with the Christmas decorations in it.

Oh, and the foam I use for the cat's window shelves.

But all of this came out of it.

Along with two old CPUs.

All those boxes are empty by the way.  For some reason they just got put in the closet.

So I broke all of them down and carted the monitors and old equipment out to the car.  Dragged the bedding and throw pillows (lawn and leaf bags full) out to the backseat and drove it all over to Goodwill where they unloaded it for me.

And now I have room for one box of my childhood dolls and stuffed animals after putting the Architect's Abode inside it.  I can safely put it on top of the Christmas crates because we really don't decorate with them much.  Cats and fragile ornaments don't mix.

It wasn't miniatures but I did accomplish something today.

Now I just need to vacuum and take the furniture out of the dollhouse so it can be moved.  And get rid of all the molded Styrofoam from the computer boxes.

Submitted My Entry... And...

Oh man do I have a problem.  All I can think of is where can I move the creating contest house so I can have my table to work on another project!  One where I can relax and have fun with it.  I really want to try something smaller. 

The house has an official name now, The Architect's Abode.  So if I start another Creatin' Contest I'll try to keep it smaller and change the labels on these posts to reflect that.  Fun right?

I took a few more pictures after Jodi sent me a link and the advice really helped!  These are cleaned up a bit and sooner or later I'll work on getting a better backdrop. I should go by Ross and find a nice white sheet to put up on the wall.  Or something...

For now...here are a few more pictures, and I can relax.  Thanks for all the encouragement and sympathy!

 

 

 

 

I messed with the camera until I got rid of the date stamp.  Thank God!

This has been doubly insane because I've been sick since late Thursday night and finally don't have a fever today.  Nothing like moving a dollhouse around and around when you're feeling like you want to keel over.

Wow!  I'm done.  Pictures taken, artwork put up, garden furniture in place... I'm a little overwhelmed.  Got the digital camera working and hopefully everything uploads the way I want.  I can only submit four pictures so they've got to be four good ones.  God help me.  I'm gonna need it.

So here we have the entire back of the house.

I'm a little worried the detail will be lost but I can't do much about it.

Ignore the erroneous date stamp.  The camera is not behaving itself.

I'm going to just put up everything I've got and hopefully all of you will enjoy.

And there we have it folks.  Now I've got to go through these and pick four to submit.  Won't that be a joy?

Roof Garden in Progress

I'll admit that this is the part of the house I worried about the most.  Not the getting it done part.  No, I'm fairly confident that I'll finish it. 

I'm concerned with cat predation.  You see, Tali is just a little too interested in the flowers.  So in between working days the roof is covered with plastic and taped down.

The roof garden is an exercise in container gardening as I learnt it in my horticulture class. (Yes, a science credit and no dissection or chemicals!)  So I blocked off the areas for the beds and build up what would (in a real flowerbed) earth/dirt with florists foam. I covered that with glue and then sprinkled rubberized mulch over it.  I can't find the product anymore and I wonder if its been discontinued.  It's not this mulch, it's smaller and darker colored and looks more like soil than actual mulch.  I'm a little bummed that I can't find more.

But after I got the flower beds build up I put some flowers I'd bought from HBS Miniatures into a few strategic spots and build up the rest of the flowers around them. 

I was so busy getting this done that I didn't take any in progress pictures. So here's some of the finished flowerbeds.

The edges of the roof are still raggety and I need to fix that.  And I will.  But first I wanted to get my patio tile down.  I bought some on Ebay and then some from HBS Miniatures and they were two different colors.  So I cut them up.  And voila!

I'll grout tonight and then hunt down my picnic table.  I've got some furniture and a little fireplace for in the empty corner.  That's also tiled in the darker terracotta. 

So far I'm fairly pleased with how it looks.

Much nicer than the yard of my actual house. 

After this is done, all that's left is the grass for the front of the house and some pavers going up to the porch. Easy peasy. (I hope.)

Details, Details, Details... oh, and Pets!

This is gonna be a mostly pictures post.  Because my weekend was spent going through all my stuff and doing a few little things to each room to make the rooms look lived in. 

So let's start with the living room.  I added a bookshelf because part of the wall looked so blank next to the chair and a picture wouldn't quite have done it.

You can just see the clock and the shelf in this picture.  I always loose track of time when I'm showering.

 

And I also set the garage up nicely.  I'm pretty pleased with it.

The tool box will probably end up on the floor and the box will be switched out for a crate.
