This was a three day weekend for me. Which is awesome. I'll be playing catchup the whole week at work but it was nice to sleep in.
It being a three day weekend I really wanted to get as much as possible done on the WQRC. I started out with the supports for the second floor.
Since it took a bit for the glue to dry I fussed with the hanging rack, cupboard, sink and table in the kitchen. I wanted to see how busy it would look with the candelabra on the table.
The candelabra is too tall for me. See what you think.
I don't know that I like it back over the oven either. It might have to live in the stillroom.
I'll make some shorter candles to group on the end when other stuff is drying. But once the supports were dry it was time to add the plaster. Several layers worth.
And the start for the crossbeams. I tried taping out the places for the beams and ended up having to move stuff anyway so I just plastered over the entire wall for the area above the door and the side walls. Then added more Dark Walnut beams.
I added more magnets to hold the side wall on. I also used drywall spackle to fill in some of the wood cracks inside since it dries faster than plaster.
I started to plaster the inside walls. I'll make a decision about 'beams' on the walls inside later. And I got the trim set for the inside of the upstairs windows. Of course I forgot to take a picture of the inside but here's a nice one of the outside with the windows in.
Since I had to wait for a lot of glue to dry I worked on some thicker candles in the meantime. I also did some work on the bedroom fireplace mantle. It's not super noticeable but I added another layer of wood and some trim to fancy it up a bit.
I made some candles for the kitchen table as well. I'll run the wire behind the back leg and into a hole in the floor.
The binder clips will not remain obviously. But right now they're holding the tray in place while the glue dries.
I'm starting work on the roof supports and figuring out if my original plan for my wiring will work or not. I need to go by Hobby Lobby for some more 1/2 inch square wood dowels for the supports.
In the mean time, a little bit of cleanup is in order, vacuuming up sawdust, etc. And I'm going to take the rest of the day to fool around and maybe read, or look around Pinterest for more inspiration.
I scared myself this week thinking I only had two and a half more months. Don't ask me why, the end of August put me into a tizzy. Huge sigh of relief when I realized that I had three months and some change.
But a few more things got knocked off the list so I'm feeling pretty good about the weekend. It's starting to look like a house! Always a huge turning point for me.

Wow, you made a lot of progress again! The candelabra is indeed a bit too big to put on the table, it will look better at a different spot. I love the candles on the table, and they work! That is so cool! Love the Xs too, and I think more of them will look awesome. As you said, it's really becoming a house now, and it's looking so good :-)!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The candelabra might just end up being extra. Or maybe on the floor in the bedroom, it depends on how everything fits.
DeleteI figure once I get things with the beams for the roof and dormers figured out I'll do the Xs while things dry.
I'm so happy you reached the point where it feels like you've actually got a dollhouse! It really is the best feeling during a build! I think switching from that big candelabra in the kitchen to the single ones is smart, and works much better in the space. It's very cool to see the hanging rack up! And overall the exterior is just looking fabulous :) Even if you don't manage to add some grand water feature the amount of detail and elements on exterior is going to be a showstopper. I felt the same way about your last build, you always seem to nail the curb appeal!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm excited to see everything finally coming together. I've got some water effect kits to see if I can do anything with them since Amazon was relatively cheap. I need to get a base for it so I can figure out just what I can do for water and how much space I can allot for the front garden.
DeleteHello Sheila,
ReplyDeleteThe exterior is magnificent. What a beautifully finished structure. The beams, the supports, the plaster... I love it. The interiors are coming along so beautifully. every detail adds to the spaces. I must say though, even if it is properly measured out, the candelabra looks out of scale in the pictures. I think it takes away from the realism of every other detail.
Big hug
Giac
Thank you! I don't think the candelabra works in the kitchen either, it just looks clunky.
DeleteOh boy, Shiela. I have been away for nearly a month and what a transformation!!!
ReplyDeleteThe kitchen space looks awesome and with light from the new lower candles the drying rack will look amazing. I haven't (yet) tracked back to see how the bedroom fireplace developed but the result is really beautiful.
This is such an amazing project - hard to believe it started with a rather simple little house shell...

Thank you! I'm just so glad that it's starting to look like a house!
DeleteNice job on the timbering, your windows look spectacular in place. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm really hoping to get a lot more done once I get more wood for my beams.
DeleteIt's so magical to see the walls up and see it all come together! I love the support corbels, the timbers against the stucco, and the windows! You've made such speedy progress over the last couple of months, so I have no doubts that you have plenty of time to incorporate all your great ideas before the deadline. Now every bit of progress will make a big impact, and it will feel as though you're accomplishing a lot more than before.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I had a couple of bad moments when I wondered if I was installing the corbels wrong but I decided even if they were they'd be consistently wrong and look uniform at least. I've got so many little things I want to make for the kitchen and stillroom, A still for one thing. And I need to make yarn, thread, wool cards, fabric... Long way to go!
DeleteSo many things you have done! Amazing job! It really looks like a house already. I love the fireplace. And literally everything.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are preparing interiors for another season in "Game of Thrones" or something. :D
Thank you! I love that show (and the books). I've got so much more I need to add but right now it's getting the basics down.
DeleteGreat picture of the supports for the second floor, Sheila! the hanging rack, cupboard, sink and table in the kitchen are awesome, but yes, I think you're right the candelabra is a bit too tall, one can't see it very well there on the table. Shorter candelabras will be better.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing the pictures with the 'beams' on the walls, it's a spectecular sight, what difference the Xs make, it's gorgeous!!
Although you realise that time is running up, your list for to do things is getting shorter, you've made so much progress. And as you say yourself: the house looks definately like a house an what for a house, it will be gorgeous, I'm sure of :)!!! I'm sure you can finish it!
Hugs, Ilona
Thank you! I'm starting to feel like it's manageable though that changes sometimes when I look at the list of things left to do! I really need to add more Xs though, they just make the house look better.
DeleteIt is really coming together. I really like the warmth of the wood contrasting with the all of the stone. I also like seeing the furniture in the space. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteThank you! The last thing I want is for it to look disjointed or cold. Tudor buildings always seem so full of life and bustle.
DeleteLos progresos han sido espectaculares , la casa ya tiene un aspecto fantástico:-)
ReplyDelete¡Gracias! Estoy muy emocionado de estar progresando.
DeleteHi Sheila! I think it is looking Fantastic!!! I have always loved your concept for this build, and it just seems to be getting better and better! You are right about the candelabra on the kitchen table... it would set fire to that lovely rack! LOL! The shorter ones are much better! I hope you find somewhere to use the larger one! The upstairs walls do begin to make the house feel real... I love the supports you put under the overhang... it is details like that which add so much character! The half-timbering and the plaster looks so realistic.... I want to move into this place! LOL! I am glad you gave yourself an "extra" month to get it all finished in (*wink*) because running out of time to get it all done would be a tragedy!!! I am so looking forward to the next updates! Keep up the great work! :):)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm feeling like time management is going to be my biggest issue. I want all these details and I'm not sure how to get them done!
DeleteIt's such a pleasure to see how much you have accomplished in this short time. You can try to put the candelabra on the kitchen counter before you remove it. I am happy for you for finding an "extra" month. Less stress. Like everybody else here, I'll be waiting for your next post.

Thank you! I think what bothers me about the candelabra on the side of the fireplace or in the bay window is it just looks wrong to me. I like it and I'm glad I made it but it might end up being a last minute addition somewhere else.
DeleteWow Sheila! You have been busy while I've been away from the mini world (well mostly, except for the odd instagram post. :) ) Can I just say, this house is a bucket full of Awesomeness!!.. you have never strayed from your vision and you are realising it beautifully. The Wattle & Daub (plaster :) ) looks fantastic and it really is coming together now as a house as you have said. That rack in the kitchen is magnificent and the candelabra was just a distraction, I'm glad you've chosen a smaller candle set instead. I love everything about this build and now I need to go back a few months in your blog and catch up on everything! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm really pleased with how it's turning out so far. I'm a bit concerned that the texture of the plaster isn't showing up much for all the work I'm doing on it, but I know it's there so it makes me feel better.
DeleteI think the smaller candles work better on the table and they take up the same amount of table space without overtaking the room.
It looks stunning, Sheila! So much is starting to come together.
ReplyDeleteThank you Megan! I'm starting to feel cautiously optimistic about getting it completed in time.
