New Year New Kit

It's actually a little funny.

I'm still trying to figure out where to put my 2017 entry.  Most likely it will go live in my husbands study when I get a little table in there.

But of course HBS sent an email.  And now they've got me thinking about the 2018 Creatin' Contest kit. Another fully enclosed kit!  I really like that.  (We all know why that is.)

It's called the Trey Gables Kit.

I really like it.  I can picture it with a bow window on the front and another gable where the skylight is.  It could be a very cozy cottage.  Or it could be a nice little shop?

The description doesn't say if there are any interior walls or if the ceiling is lofted.  But there's another picture of the outside all done up.

Measurements are 15"W x 17"H x 24"D which is a bit smaller than the 2017 kit.

I like the thatched roof though.  And the smaller footprint.  This could be a lot of fun!

Happy New Year!

  1. Oh, this kit looks great! In tempted myself! I am looking forward to seeing what you do with it. I like the bow window idea. I think a dormer would look cute where th skylight is. :)

    1. I actually like it so much better than the 2017 kit! I'm not sure what to do with it yet but it seems to inspire ideas.

    1. I'm guessing its similar to the 2017 kit. The roof is removable and you can fix the walls in. But I put one of my walls on hinges so I could do both.

    2. Ok! I use magnets instead of hinges because it´s looks better outside.A tip.

    1. I'm excited. Once I get the kit and play with a dry fit I'll probably have a better idea of what I want to do.

      Happy New Year!

    2. Yes, I wonder how they have done the interior.

    3. I'm really curious about that. Hopefully when the catalog comes out we'll get to see.

  6. It is a much cuter design and could morph into something fantastic with your creative eye. I wish they would have shown an empty interior shot with the roof removed and one of Fran's interior. I'll probably buy it, but not build it or enter again this year. I have too much I want to accomplish on the plate already! Happy New Year!

    1. Yeah I know what you mean. I want to play with the interior mentally at least and can't right now.

I actually feel like I need a goal or deadline to do things, sometimes I get way too lazy and don't want to get off the couch. The contest keeps me busy.

  8. Hi Sheila, happy new year! The kit looks great doesn’t it? I’d love to do it this year (I have an idea for this kit I’d love to do) but probably won’t for a multitude of reasons. Is it me or are they getting bigger?? Haha! I’d love to follow other people’s builds though. Like yours....

    2. Me too! And the deadline gives me motivation to keep going too. But I have a lot of projects I want to get finished, it is too big (I have a cap on 1” scale builds) and it will cost the bomb to have it shipped to Australia. Perhaps I’ll just make my own similar build in 1:24 scale! Oh... just had another idea for it.... dang.

    3. Well let me know if you want measurements for it or something. So you can shrink it down to 1/2 scale.

  9. Such a cute kit! I really do like this years style. Can't wait to see what you do with it :) Personally I might get it but I don't think I'll do another contest submission. The deadline was the perfect motivation for my first build but I'm looking forward to taking my time and working on other projects too (and you know, actually blogging about it haha). I love how you've done a few of these now, I swear the moment I finished this one I was like "Let's do another!!" It's going to be so great to see where you go with this.

    1. I really like it. It reminds me of an old stone plastered cottage, the kind with glazed windows and beams inside.

I like having the contest to keep me going but if I didn't blog about the build I'd probably go nuts.

Can't wait to see more of your builds!

  11. This new kit is Adorable and the illustrated photo of it finished has me drooling over it's English Cottage exterior. Space though, is always a concern.
I am also looking forward to seeing all of the HBS 2017 entries, as it's Totally Fascinating to see the variety and imaginative interpretations of one kit.

    1. I really like this one. I liked the Craftsman but this is just more like a house to me for some reason. I've got ideas but I want to see the inside before I make any decisions.
