Cleaning Out My Closet

No, not the Eminem song.  Though I do like that one.

And not actually my closet, the 'walk in' closet in my husband's study.  It started out as a place to keep things were didn't know where to put, and some keepsakes that I didn't need out.  And Christmas decorations...that sort of thing.

Because we don't go in the attic.  Not ever.  It's creepy up there.

But with the big footprint of the Craftsman Tiny House I've been running out of space for my houses.

Husband suggested we get the closet cleaned out and we could put the Architect's abode in there.  It would free up more space in my workroom (dining room) and clear the table so I can work on the next project.

It's not a huge closet but it was amazing what got packed into it.

Here it is with the Christmas decorations in it.

Oh, and the foam I use for the cat's window shelves.

But all of this came out of it.

Along with two old CPUs.

All those boxes are empty by the way.  For some reason they just got put in the closet.

So I broke all of them down and carted the monitors and old equipment out to the car.  Dragged the bedding and throw pillows (lawn and leaf bags full) out to the backseat and drove it all over to Goodwill where they unloaded it for me.

And now I have room for one box of my childhood dolls and stuffed animals after putting the Architect's Abode inside it.  I can safely put it on top of the Christmas crates because we really don't decorate with them much.  Cats and fragile ornaments don't mix.

It wasn't miniatures but I did accomplish something today.

Now I just need to vacuum and take the furniture out of the dollhouse so it can be moved.  And get rid of all the molded Styrofoam from the computer boxes.

  1. I believe I still have the box for the old iMac blueberry that was replaced decades ago. Must keep the boxes!

    1. I draw the line at boxes for computers we don't even use anymore though.

  2. Cleaning out cupboards is a therapeutic exercise Sheila so although it might not have been directly related to miniatures, the entire process clears your mind as well as your closet.
And now let the mini-making begin! :D

    1. Therapeutic and back breaking both! Though I don't feel as bad as if I'd been gardening so there's that.

I just need to get my husband to help me move the Architect's Abode to the closet and the Craftsman to its new place and then oh yes... plotting and planning.

  3. Space is the name of the game. Although we deal with miniatures, at the beginning no one believes how much space they take up. It's good that we can use our blogs as show cases and then pack up and store the finished projects.
Now you will be able work and let your back relax.

    1. I certainly hope so! I was still shocked by how much room the Bungalow took up on my desk. If I move things around I have a better chance of a cat not getting into either build.

  4. Oooh I feel guilt pangs running through me now. I have neglected to tackle my crafts storage closet. Congratulations on getting yours done.
I try never to go in my attics (as if one wasn't bad enough). They give me the creeps too.

    1. Unless they have stairs going up to them and room enough to walk around I don't want to mess with an attic. Too much trouble to store things otherwise.

Nah! If you don't have to clean things out of need then don't! I only go through this because I don't have any room for new projects.

  5. It feels so good to purge! I did the pantry just before Christmas - hubs had boxes from tools he purchased last year stored in there "just in case". I had last year's tree and stocking box. All now relocated to other places we'll someday have to organize too. Oh well, it's nice just to have the pantry back!

    1. Yeah now I just need to take the door off the hinges so I can put the dollhouse into the closet.
