2018 Creatin' Contest - First, Second & Third Place

I'm so amazed by these builds.  They're gorgeous!  So unique and interesting.  I get so excited when I get this email.  Miniatures.com has them all up, though I had trouble looking at one of the pictures of the Third Place entry.

In first place, Crafter's Retreat by Karen Hritz

I've got to say I love the details on the inside, but the exterior is just breathtaking!

In second place, The Little Yoga Studio by Sarah Santosa

Sarah is another first time entrant and I'm just amazed.  I feel relaxed just looking at these pics.

In third place, My Minka by Bonnie Cross

That landscaping! Everything is just so pretty.

I haven't had time yet to go searching for blogs or Instagram pages, I wanted to get the post up so I could show off all these great winners.  I'll try to get everything updated with links as I find them.

Congratulations everyone!

  1. Thank you for posting these! Yes, they are truly beautiful, and a joy to look at on a Monday morning. However, I have to say, in all honesty, yours was beautiful, too. I've look at Creatin' Contests results from past years, and I'm somewhat baffled as to what the criteria are. I have seen some submissions that didn't place at all that were every bit as nice (in my opinion) as the winners. Anyway, congratulations to the winners, but also know that your readers thoroughly enjoyed your posts about your submission and appreciated all the wonderful work that you put into it.

    1. Thank you! You're very kind. I'll admit that I don't have a clue as to the criteria.

    2. I think it's at least partially judged on a criteria of "voter favorites", so the more friends & family you can convince to go on there & vote for you, you can probably boost your odds because I'd imagine the non-bias foot traffick for voting would be the miniaturist community that's aware of the contest, which probably isn't too terribly big.

  2. Lovely pictures of wonderful houses of the winners, as there were lots of beautiful submissions, as yours is. It seems to me that it must be hard to choose which one the winner will be. Thank you for posting, Sheila.
I agree with Deborah: I enjoyed so much seeing your project/submission growing in the past months, you've put so much work and energy in it. To my humble opninion your submission has won too :)!

    1. Thank you Ilona! I really appreciate your kindness and support.

We still have the grand prize to go, which I think will be announced towards the end of this week.

    2. Didn't realize that. I thought we were done. Well, fingers still crossed then!

  3. Hi Sheila, It is so generous of you to share our entrants' fabulous projects; we really appreciate it.

The question of judging criteria has come up, so I want to jump in here and clarify. The contest is judged on originality, creativity and quality of workmanship. That info is given in the contest rules, whether the entry is hardcopy or digital, and a hardcopy entry form is sent with every kit.

I know there is a lot to keep track of when someone is working on an entry project, so please feel free to ask anytime there is a question. We're glad to help.

    Thanks!

    Fran

  5. Hi Sheila, Thanks for taking the time to share the links. It blows me away just how different all the entries are and it is almost hard to believe they all started out as the same kit.
Fingers and toes cross for you and your fabulous entry for the final announcement! Whichever way it goes, just know it is already a winner and following its creation was simply compelling.
    Best of luck,
    Anna X

    1. I'm really amazed at the sheer creativity. It just emphasizes to me how differently our minds work and how unique we all are. Same kit but so many different visions.

  6. Thanks for posting these Sheila. I really love the design aesthetic of the second place getter. That wood finish is right up my alley. They better get some tacky wax to that picture though. It's about to come off the wall. :)

    1. That simple elegance and white with the wood tones did remind me a lot of your dining room! The picture does look a bit precarious...maybe it needs some command strips.
