I know that I am. I have photographic proof. Maybe it's because I started to not like how my little candelabras looked and took them apart.
I used some of the candles on the stillroom/laboratory table.
I'd wanted candles on it anyway and since the second candelabra looked too clunky in comparison to the other lights in the room this was a good use of the candles from it.
I started to make books and used nail polish on the rest of my gesso covered bottles to make them look a little more magical.
I used some scrapbook paper that has a texture to it and wrapped it around some cheap books I'd picked up. I painted the edges with Americana's Buttermilk so they'd look like yellow pages rather than white.
Then I began adding things to the shelves.
The spilled potion bottle on the book and papers is from Amber Miller of HueDesigns on Ebay. She's started posting autions again and her magic potions are really creepy and fun.
The crystals are from Keli, along with a bunch of wool and other cool stuff. The scrolls are from another seller on Ebay. The books are the ones I made. Obviously glue is still drying. But so far so good.
I started adding other things to the worktable. Some of them will change as I decide on the right look.
And I filled up another shelf.
These are what I've glued down, I'll stack some more papers and books on the second shelf to fill it out a bit.
And I added a hook to one of the beams to hang my brazier.
I used some of the wool Keli sent me on the spinning wheel. I did my best to figure out how a working one would have the wool and thread spun onto it.
And since I'd taken the candelabra off the queen's beside table to make a smaller one I had two candles left and decided to make a pile of books for her room. A little more light and something interesting to add to the room.
Another look at the final version of the workroom table.
The lights work, which is always a plus. So do the lights on the desk and shelf.
All this testing of the lights was pretty important since I wanted to get the floor in the house this weekend.
I managed it, with a bit of cursing, leaning over the glue bottle and getting it on my shirt, breaking wires, rewiring and finally getting it all in. It isn't glued down, though the fireplace and some of the furniture is. If I really need to I can remove it. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
I haven't added all of the furniture to the workroom yet. Just the pieces I have finished.
There's still a lot to do.
I want to make a lantern, similar to this:
To hang on the wall by the front door. Along with a cloak and the clogs.
And I need to figure out a system for drying died wool in the workroom. This is amazing so I want to reproduce it a bit at least.
The big thing is figuring something out that won't bump into the chandelier or make everything look too busy.
I'm thinking that since I'll need to do a few things during the week I could make an attempt to work on the Queen's bedding. And maybe her cloak.
Adding things to the list and crossing others off.

ReplyDeleteMoe power to ya!!!
The table candles look awesome! You are getting a lot done, but I totally know the feeling that you're pressing on a deadline you'll never reach. :]
ReplyDeleteThanks Brae! I was so thankful they worked. It took me two tries to get it right. Glad I had extra light sockets.
DeleteMy husband reminded me that I had Thanksgiving weekend to work on it too so that was nice.
I knew you had the perfect spot for Charlene’s crystals. The workroom is looking great.
ReplyDeleteI’m feeling the deadline panic too. Deep breaths, we’ll make it.
Thank you Keli! They're perfect near the spilled potion. And with the light they'll reflect a bit I think.
DeleteI think if I try to clean up my workspace a little at a time during the week I can make room to work on the base this weekend.
That's a goal I need to aspire to as well. Both my worktables are covered, as are three carts and a chair. Sigh.
DeleteI have no carts, but three out of five chairs are covered, the back of the spare couch has my base parts sitting on it, and there's some serious vacuuming needed as well as tons of stuff that should be put away.
DeleteI'm afraid if I put some things away I'll never find them again though.
Wow, Sheila, the workroom looks gorgeous already! You've done lots of work, the table candles look gorgeous. Adding so much of these incredible details will take time, but they can't be missed in there ;)!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Ilona
Thanks Ilona! I need to do a post with links to all my sources. Probably at the end of the year when I'm all done.
DeleteThe place is really starting to fill up! I love the little books and candles on the side, and the books on the work table. Second guessing this late in the year adds a lot of stress so hopefully now that you've sorted out some of the candles you can keep moving forward! Having so many light sources inside is going to be fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristine! I'm pretty happy with how it looks so far. I think I'm done with the light changes though. I need to do a little more fussing with the new candelabra, hot glue, gesso and paint to soften some of the stranger connections, but it should be ready for pictures soon.
DeleteYeah everything was looking so dark in the Queen's bedroom I wanted more light in various places.
The workroom is amazing. All the details are perfect. I love the books - they are looking so real ang magical. Candles on the table are perfect.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've still got a shelf to go and the queen's desk. But it's slowly getting into place.
DeleteWell the good news is... Everything you've done works and looks fantastic! I love the way the layout of the second floor lets you see each of the little scenes within the scene. The floor looks wonderfully rustic and fits right into the fantasy!
ReplyDeleteI guess there really isn't any bad news, except that the deadline does loom. But... If you stay organized and prioritize the things you have left on the list, you're sure to at least have all of the major components ready for the submission photos. You can get away with finishing the not-so-important details after the deadline!
Great work, Sheila! I hope you find the weekday homework productive so you feel less stressed about the dreaded Saturday work!
Thanks Jodi! I don't think I'll be gluing the floor in, just in case something goes wrong.
DeleteI'm torn between trying to work on the Queen's bedding and straightening up my workspace at night this week.
I'm already debating the necessity of finishing the back of the house where all the wires come out since it shouldn't be seen in any of the pictures.
I love all of the items on the shelves. The rolled up paper and books look really good! Great job on the candle lights too. Now to hide the wires...
ReplyDeleteThanks Troy!
ReplyDeleteI know...wires are the bane of my existence!
Lots of progress Sheila, and it is looking great. I can understand why you’re stressing by a looming deadline but don’t lose sight of how much you have achieved this year. It’s so close. Landscaping can be relatively quick, especially if you just want to get some basics in. You could buy a tree premade, even if you replace it later. Anyway, I am sure you will figure it out and get it done in time. Just. Keep. Going. X
ReplyDeleteThanks Shannon! This is the time of year I generally tend to panic anyway. I'm hopeful that I can do some little things at night during the week.
DeleteI love all the details you have been adding. You are creating a house with a very real yet magical atmosphere!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm hoping for an authentic WQRC. Seems a bit contradictory.
DeleteI simply love everything you are creating for this house, as well as your plans for more details. The last photo is very inspiring. I'm sure you will have fun with the wool items.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Drora
Thanks Drora! I want to have something similar to the drying racks but hopefully it won't make things too confusing to the eye!
DeleteHugs!
Hi Sheila! I really admire your ability to work on a deadline! I would have given up a long time ago! :) The tables you have assembled look fantastic! I love the collections on the shelves too! Some people just know how to arrange things!! I really love the way the potion bottles turned out with the nail polish glazing... another great idea! The only suggestion I have is for the spinning wheel.... the raw wool doesn't go onto the big wheel at all... that is just the treadle power to make the little spinner spin faster (like with a treadle sewing machine it's just the turning power) the raw wool just goes directly to that little gadget that is the spinner... it "spins" and twists the wool into thread, if you get what I mean!
ReplyDeleteI am really really loving all the pieces you are assembling for this build.... it is just getting better and better... I can't wait to see more! :)
Thanks Betsy! I'll have to mess around with the spinning wheel some more obviously I missed something when I was looking at it. I'll get that fixed. Thank you!
