And rather than go crazy with different siding/texture mockups I thought I'd check out how some trim would look. Obviously it'll be a bit lighter in color, but you get a sense of what I'm trying to do.
I also spent some time today adding trim to the windows so they look more craftsman.
What do you think?
Just a quick pic on my cell phone. But with the door, the window and the trim you get an idea of what I'm trying to do.
If I change the texture it would be above the trim line on the front wall.
Opinions?
I've got all the window trim sorted and I'm planning on painting it up after I take care of a few chores.
It already looks more balanced to me. Once you get those columns up, your front door will really pop. Didn't you mention the teal blue for the door? That will also pop. I think it looks great! Breathe a little...remember, you're having FUN! haaaaaa!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I think you're right, it just needs something break up that huge expanse of blue. Plus some corbels/braces to go under the roof will lighten it up a bit more too.
DeleteOh yeah...that's right. This is supposed to be fun, not stressful. LOL
I really like the added trims you're installing, as well as those extra bits on the window. What are your plans for exterior lights?
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm actually hoping to make an exterior light in the Craftsman lantern type style. Something to live on the wall next to the door.
DeleteOhhh love the window trim! I think some columns at the front and it will tie everything together. Now that you put that trim line up on the front wall I can really see the shingled pieces there, but still in the same colour. That also seems like a lot of work though! Even leaving it as is looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I honestly don't mind the work, even pulling siding off and putting shingles on will be fine. I just want it to look interesting.
DeleteThough with the trim I like the siding above the porch better.
I think keep the siding above the porch and shingle the house above the trim line, keeping it blue. Though honestly, I don't know if it would be worth the effort. You're the only one who knows that.
ReplyDeleteLove the windows and door, very craftsman!
I'm just OCD enough that it would bother me to not have shingling or vertical siding or some difference in pattern. I lean towards vertical siding
DeleteVertical siding would look great. You're right, it would be more true to type to have two different sidings.
DeleteSlightly less labor intensive than the shingles too.
DeleteThe window and door look absolutely charming! Can't wait to see what you decide on with the siding!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm thinking above the trim I'll do some vertical siding. Undecided about the area above the front door. It's small but vertical siding there might be the right touch.
