2018 Creatin' Contest - Grand Prize Winner... Me!

The alternative post title was 'The screech of shock heard around the world'. But that was a little unwieldy as a sentence.

Guys it was soooo hard to not tell you.  Thanks so much for all your good wishes, positive thinking and support!  Most of you have already seen the pictures of the Cottage but here is the Miniatures.com link.

I'm so excited!  I couldn't have done this without all of you cheering me on and giving me advice.

Thank you all so much!

  3. Congratulations, the house is amazing, so full of all the incredible things that you made. It must have been almost impossible to choose just 4 photos. I did the happy dance when I read the notice. Your win is hard work and inspiration rewarded.

    1. Thank you Keli! I couldn't have done this without your help, (just had one of the girls at work asking about the wool over the window in the workroom, as an example).

I really wanted to tell everyone weeks back but I wasn't sure what I was allowed to say or not.

    2. HUGE HIGH 5's Sheila!!!! 😃
I am SOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY for you!
This was one Amazingly ambitious build, in which you've magically transformed the original kit into something else entirely . It was not only a complicated transformation but it is utterly fascinating what you have done in making it a home, and a business with an ongoing story,. Everyone can "see" the occupant going about her tasks as well as imagine her frequent interaction with her local customers seeking lotions and potions for whatever happens to ail them.
This is a Mini Masterpiece Sheila, and I am STOKED that the judges were as equally enchanted by your Evil Queen's Retirement Cottage, as the rest of us were- BRAVO! 🏆

  8. I am so thrilled for you! You have really put so much passion and effort into this contest, not just this year, but for many years. And improved so much. And this build is just amazing! Such a masterpiece. Just the yarn room and the potion room alone are masterful. (I will say, I suspected you won when you gave a reply to someone of "stay posted." But I didn't know if they told you in advance.) So thrilled for you! Congratulations!

    1. Thanks Penelope! They do tell you in advance but they're also very adamant about not letting the cat out of the bag until they announce it. Which I understand. I felt so bad about not telling anyone especially when folks were so outraged about the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.

  13. *claps* Bravo Sheila! I’ve loved following this build and all the research and building of individual components. It totally amazes me that you got this all done in a year! I’m so glad Miniatures.com have rewarded your hard work and tenacity. Now the fun bit of spending your winnings on minis begins. Is it too soon to ask if you are entering this year? ;)

    1. Thanks! Very excited here.

I have purchased the 2019 kit and I'm going to try to do two builds simultaneously, and just relax and enjoy the process. If I'm done in time for the contest then great, if I'm not, I'll live.

  20. Oh Sheila! I can't tell you how happy and excited I was when I opened my email and saw that it was YOU! Hooray! Congratulations! And it is such a well deserved win!!!
I had a feeling when you weren't 1, 2, or 3 because the WC Cottage is just so amazing I knew you had to win something! To all of us striving to become better miniaturists, you have set an incredible example for all of us: Be brave, dream big, don't be intimidated by new things, try your ideas, set your focus and do the work!
You're an inspiration, and I hope the win will be just the beginning of exciting and fulfilling times for you! I can't wait t see you on the cover of not only the catalog, but some mini mags, too!!!

  24. Very well done! Hearty Congratulations! You deserved it!
I was already composing the stinking letter I would write to the judges if you didn't win. After all the thought and hard work you put into this project it was sure to be a winner.
It also underlines your decision not to enter the competition again this year. Give it a rest, take a year to enjoy working on smaller projects, then come back next year and knock 'em out once more.
I hope that you will celebrate and bask in the glow of your success for many months to come, I would have.

  26. Sheila BIG BIG BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!! This project is just fantastic. I love details and the cottage has a lot of it. Thank you for all the additional pictures, I would have looked at all 100 of them if you had posted them! I can't believe how much work this must have been and everything is in such a great harmony. I was not a lot online in this past year and could not follow all your posts, but when you had started the project, I remember it already felt like this was going to be something great. So well deserved! Again congratulations on this amazing build.
